Merge Multi-Source Excel Data Into One Sheet for Financial Modeling

Financial models break when source data lives across a dozen worksheets with inconsistent column layouts. Pulling actuals from one workbook, budget from another, and prior-year comps from a third means hours of alignment work before any analysis can begin. Deliteful's Excel Combine Sheets tool flattens all of that into one clean dataset in seconds.

Analysts building variance reports, rolling forecasts, or bridge analyses frequently pull data exports from ERP systems, FP&A tools, or business unit owners — each with slightly different column names, sheet structures, or row ordering. Even a single misaligned column in a VLOOKUP or INDEX/MATCH reference can silently corrupt a model. The manual consolidation step is both the most tedious and the most error-prone part of the workflow.

Deliteful combines all worksheets from all uploaded workbooks into a single 'Combined' sheet, outputting the union of every column it finds. Sheets missing a column get empty cells — not errors — so your model's formulas reference a stable, predictable structure. Add the optional source-sheet column to retain the data lineage your model review process requires.

How it works

  1. 1

Export your data sources to Excel

Pull actuals, budget, and forecast exports as .xlsx files from your ERP, BI tool, or shared drives.

  2. 2

    Upload all workbooks to Deliteful

Drag in multiple .xlsx or .xls files in a single upload — each can contain multiple sheets.

  3. 3

    Enable source tracking if needed

Toggle 'Include sheet name' or 'Include source file name' to preserve data lineage for model audits.

  4. 4

Download and load into your model

Use the combined sheet as your model's data input tab or paste it directly into Power Query.

Frequently asked questions

How does Deliteful handle sheets with different column orders?
Deliteful reads headers from the first row of each sheet and aligns rows by column name, not column position. Sheets with different column orders are correctly mapped, and any column not present in a given sheet produces empty cells for those rows.
Can I use the combined output directly in Power Query or Power Pivot?
Yes. The output is a standard .xlsx file with one worksheet. It loads cleanly into Power Query, Power Pivot, or any other tool that accepts tabular Excel data.
Does the tool normalize inconsistent header names across sheets?
No — Deliteful does not rename or normalize headers. If your source sheets use slightly different names for the same column (e.g. 'Revenue' vs 'Total Revenue'), those will appear as separate columns in the output. Standardize headers in your source files first for cleanest results.
Is there a limit to how many sheets or files I can combine?
You can upload multiple workbooks in one job. All sheets across all files are processed. Very large files may take longer but there is no hard cap on sheet count.
