Fix Client-Supplied PDF Orientation Before Prepress and Plating
Client-supplied PDFs with incorrect page orientation are one of the most common prepress errors in print production — and catching them after RIP is expensive. Deliteful's Rotate PDF tool corrects orientation before the file enters your prepress workflow, eliminating a preventable plate waste scenario.
Print production teams routinely receive artwork files from clients who exported from InDesign, Illustrator, or Word with the wrong page rotation baked in. A landscape brochure panel arriving as a portrait-rotated PDF, or a wide-format banner submitted upside down, has to be corrected before imposition. The longer that correction happens downstream, the more it costs — preflight is the right checkpoint.
Deliteful rotates all pages in a PDF at 90, 180, or 270 degrees, preserving vector content, embedded fonts, bleed areas, and color profiles. The corrected file downloads immediately for re-entry into your preflight and imposition workflow. At 1 credit per file, it's a negligible cost compared to a reprinted plate or a missed press deadline.
How it works
- 1
Upload the client-supplied PDF
Upload the artwork or document file with incorrect page orientation before preflight processing.
- 2
Select the correction angle
Choose 90° clockwise, 180°, or 270° counterclockwise to match the file's intended print orientation.
- 3
Download and re-enter preflight
Download the corrected PDF and run it through your standard preflight checks before imposition.
Frequently asked questions
- Does rotation affect bleed areas or crop marks in a print-ready PDF?
- Rotation sets the page's display angle at the PDF metadata level and does not swap the page's MediaBox dimensions. Bleed and trim areas rotate visually, but the page width and height values in the file remain unchanged. Some imposition tools read the /Rotate entry correctly; others do not. Always verify that your RIP and imposition software interpret the rotated file as intended before plating.
- Will rotating a PDF change its color profile or rasterize vector artwork?
- No. Rotation is a page-level metadata operation and does not re-render, rasterize, or alter the color space of any content. Vector artwork, embedded ICC profiles, and spot color definitions are preserved.
- Can I use this to fix PDFs with mixed portrait and landscape pages in the same file?
- Deliteful applies one rotation angle to all pages uniformly. For a file with mixed orientations, split by page range, rotate each group to its correct orientation, then merge before imposition.
- Does this work on PDF/X files submitted for commercial printing?
- Deliteful's tool works on standard PDFs including most PDF/X variants. After rotation, re-validate the file against your PDF/X profile requirements if strict compliance is needed for the job.
