Edit PDF Metadata for Legal Documents Before Filing or Distribution
Contracts and legal briefs filed with incorrect or missing author and title metadata create attribution problems and fail document management audits. Deliteful's PDF metadata editor lets you update title, author, subject, and keywords on any PDF without touching a single word of the underlying content.
Law firms increasingly rely on document management systems like iManage or NetDocuments that index PDFs by their embedded metadata. When a brief is exported from Word or scanned from paper, the metadata fields are often blank, wrong, or still set to the original drafter's name. This creates version confusion during discovery and breaks search indexing inside the DMS.
Deliteful updates only the fields you specify — title, author, subject, creator, or keywords — leaving page content, formatting, and digital signatures untouched. At 1 credit per file, you can correct metadata across a batch of exhibits or filings without reformatting or re-signing a single document.

Frequently asked questions
- Will editing metadata affect digital signatures or court filing timestamps?
- No. Deliteful only rewrites the document information dictionary in the PDF structure. Digital signatures and embedded timestamps are stored separately and are not modified.
- Can I update metadata on a PDF that is already signed or certified?
- Metadata editing on a signed PDF may invalidate the signature in some PDF viewers. If you need to update metadata on a signed document, consult your e-signature provider before proceeding. For unsigned PDFs, there is no issue.
- What metadata fields can I update?
- You can update Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, and Creator. Fields you leave blank remain unchanged — Deliteful does not clear existing metadata unless you explicitly overwrite a field.
- Does this tool change the visible content of my legal document?
- No. Page content, text, formatting, and layout are completely preserved. Only the embedded metadata fields you specify are changed.
