Standardize PDF Metadata Across Your Document Archive
Document archives with inconsistent or missing metadata are effectively unsearchable — staff waste hours hunting for files that a properly tagged system would surface in seconds. Deliteful lets you correct and standardize PDF metadata fields across your archive without altering a single page of content.
Organizations migrating to a new document management system, or auditing an existing one, routinely discover that thousands of PDFs have blank Title fields, generic Author values like 'Adobe Acrobat', or keywords that were never set. ISO 15489 records management standards require that document metadata accurately reflect authorship, subject, and date context — gaps here create compliance exposure during audits.
Because Deliteful only modifies the fields you explicitly provide, you can run a targeted cleanup without risking unintended changes to other metadata or file content. At 1 credit per file, correcting even large batches is cost-effective, and each processed file downloads immediately as a standards-compliant PDF.

Frequently asked questions
- Does editing PDF metadata change the file's modification date?
- The PDF's embedded ModDate metadata field may be updated to reflect when the file was processed. Check your DMS ingestion settings if preserving the original modification date is a records management requirement.
- Can I use this tool to add subject and keyword metadata to scanned PDFs?
- Yes. Scanned PDFs store metadata separately from page image content. You can add or correct Title, Subject, Keywords, Author, and Creator fields on any PDF regardless of whether it contains searchable text or only scanned images.
- What happens to metadata fields I leave blank?
- Any field you leave blank is untouched — Deliteful only overwrites fields you explicitly provide. Existing metadata in unspecified fields is preserved exactly as-is.
- Is there a batch processing option for large archives?
- Currently each file is processed individually. For high-volume archive projects, a paid Deliteful plan provides higher credit limits to support large-scale metadata correction workflows.
