Sort Financial CSV Data by Date, Amount, or Account Code

Reconciling accounts or preparing schedules is significantly slower when transaction exports arrive in random row order — finding the largest variances or tracing a date range requires re-sorting every time. Deliteful's CSV Sort tool lets you reorder any financial CSV by the column that matters most for the task at hand.

Bank exports, accounting software dumps, and payment processor reports rarely arrive in the order you need them. Sorting by transaction date is the most common need during reconciliation; sorting by amount descending quickly surfaces the largest items for review; sorting by account code groups postings for schedule preparation. Doing this in Excel on a 50,000-row general ledger export is slow and risks inadvertent edits to source data.

Deliteful keeps your original file intact and produces a clean sorted copy. Numeric sorting is applied automatically to amount and code columns, so $1,200 correctly follows $200 rather than being sorted as text. The tool processes the file server-side and returns UTF-8 encoded output — safe to re-import into QuickBooks, Xero, or any accounting platform without encoding issues.

How it works

  1. 1

Export your transaction or ledger CSV

Pull the CSV export from your accounting software, bank portal, or payment processor.

  2. 2

    Upload to Deliteful

Drop the file into the CSV Sort uploader — no size-based preprocessing needed for typical accounting exports.

  3. 3

Enter the column to sort by

Type the column header exactly as it appears — e.g. 'transaction_date', 'amount', or 'account_code'.

  4. 4

    Download the sorted file

Retrieve the ordered CSV and use it directly for reconciliation, review, or re-import.

Frequently asked questions

Can I sort a bank export CSV by transaction date?
Yes. Enter the date column name and choose ascending or descending. Date values stored as text (e.g. YYYY-MM-DD) sort correctly in ascending order because the format is lexicographically consistent.
Will sorting by amount work correctly for dollar values?
Yes, as long as the amount column contains numeric values without currency symbols. If your export includes '$' prefixes, remove them first — the tool sorts numerically when values are clean numbers.
Does this tool modify my original file?
No. Deliteful produces a new sorted CSV as output. Your uploaded file is never altered, so you always retain the original export for audit purposes.
Can I sort multiple ledger files in one session?
Yes. You can upload multiple CSV files at once. Each is sorted independently by the same column and direction, and each produces its own sorted output file.
