Split Excel Files by Client or Cost Center — Built for Accountants

Accountants managing multi-client workbooks spend hours manually filtering and saving individual client tabs or cost-center rows. Deliteful's Excel Split by Column tool automates this entirely — upload your workbook, name the column, and receive one file per unique value in seconds.

Most accounting teams maintain consolidated Excel exports from their GL, payroll, or AP systems — one sheet with hundreds of rows spanning dozens of clients or departments. Distributing those rows to the right stakeholder means either manual filtering and Save-As cycles or writing VBA macros. Both approaches are error-prone and time-consuming, especially at month-end when speed matters most.

Deliteful processes your Excel file server-side and outputs one .xlsx file per unique column value — whether that column is 'Client', 'Department', 'Cost Center', or 'Entity'. Each output file includes the original header row and only the matching data rows. No formulas or styles are preserved, so outputs are clean, portable, and safe to send externally.

Frequently asked questions

Can I split an Excel file by client name for separate delivery?
Yes. Enter the column header containing client names and Deliteful produces one .xlsx file per unique client. Each file contains only that client's rows plus the original header, ready to send.
Does this work with GL exports from QuickBooks or Xero?
Yes, as long as the export is an .xlsx or .xls file with a consistent column header. Deliteful reads the first worksheet containing the specified column and splits from there.
What happens to rows with a blank value in the split column?
Rows with empty or missing values in the selected column are grouped together into a single output file, so no data is lost.
Is there a limit to how many output files are created?
Deliteful creates up to 200 output files per input file. If your column has more than 200 unique values, rows beyond that limit are not included in any output file.
Are formulas preserved in the split output files?
No — cell formatting, styles, and formulas are not preserved. Outputs contain raw values only, which is typically what you want for clean external delivery.
