Clean Product Catalogs and Order Exports Before Uploading to Your Store

Bulk product uploads and order import files fail for the most mundane reasons: a blank row in the middle of your SKU list breaks the import at row 847, or a trailing space in a category name creates a duplicate category in your store. Deliteful's Excel Clean tool removes fully empty rows and columns and trims all text cell whitespace across your entire workbook before the file ever reaches Shopify, WooCommerce, or your marketplace importer.

E-commerce managers working with product catalogs, inventory exports, or order data from suppliers know that the file you receive is rarely import-ready. Supplier product sheets often use blank rows as section dividers; order exports from fulfillment systems pad SKUs and addresses with spaces; and category hierarchies use inconsistent spacing that creates duplicate filter values on the storefront. Each of these issues must be caught and fixed before import — or you're debugging failed uploads and duplicate taxonomy entries after the fact.

Deliteful removes every fully empty row and column from the workbook and trims whitespace from all text cells across all sheets. Numeric values — prices, quantities, weights — are never modified. The sheet structure is preserved, so multi-tab workbooks (e.g., one tab per product category or supplier) come back clean with the same organization. The result is an import-ready file that won't trigger validation errors or create data inconsistencies in your store.

Frequently asked questions

Will removing blank rows mess up my row-based import format?
No — import formats read data rows sequentially and skip blank rows anyway, but having blank rows mid-file can confuse some importers into stopping early. Removing them produces a cleaner, more reliable import file.
Can this fix SKU codes that have extra spaces?
Yes. If SKU codes are stored as text cells with leading or trailing spaces, those spaces will be trimmed. This prevents duplicate SKU creation in systems that treat 'SKU123' and ' SKU123' as different values.
Does this work on files exported from Shopify, WooCommerce, or Amazon Seller Central?
Yes. Any .xlsx or .xls file works regardless of the source platform. Exports from Shopify, WooCommerce, Amazon, and most marketplace tools are standard Excel format.
I have a supplier sheet with 15 tabs, one per product category. Will all tabs be cleaned?
Yes. Every worksheet in the workbook is cleaned in a single operation, with tab names and order preserved.
Are product prices or numeric quantities ever changed?
No. Only text-type cells are modified (whitespace trimmed). Numbers, prices, weights, and quantities are preserved exactly as-is.
